David Gladow has a blog on the Times-Picayune website nola.com, called The Sammich ScoutHis most recent post is about the Ferdi Special at Mother's.  He likes the food but says it's not worth the tourist crowds; he recommends locals visit in summer.  About the Ferdi, he comments: "Filled with . . . ham, debris and gravy (as well as roast beef) and dressed with cabbage, pickles, mayo and a ton of mustard, the Ferdi strikes a great balance."  He also praised the mustardy, room-temperature potato salad.

In Michael Stern's Roadfood.com review of Mother's, he says: "Of the many must-eat foods in New Orleans, a po-boy sandwich rates high on the list; and of the restaurants where you want to eat one, put Mother’s at the top."
