The July/August issue of Yankee Magazine (for those unfamiliar with it, this mag is about New England, not the baseball team) features a write-up by Jane and Michael Stern (and, darn it, they too get Jane’s name wrong – she’s listed as Jan) on the top five ice cream stands in New England.  Their choices: The Ridgefield Ice Cream Shop in Connecticut (Roadfood.com review), Gray’s Ice Cream in Rhode Island (Roadfood.com review), Christina’s Homemade Ice Cream in Massachusetts, Bishop’s Ice Cream of New Hampshire (Roadfood.com review), and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard of Maine (Roadfood.com review).  Poor Vermont; Yankee should have asked for six!

Pictured above is a small chocolate cone from Michael’s Ridgefield review.

I was very surprised that Grays did as poorly on the RoadFood review as they did. I think their flagship flavor of coffee ice cream should have been judged. I can honestly say I have never had better coffee malts than at Grays, although Brickleys comes pretty close but they lack the home made coffee syrup to go alonbg with the home made coffee ice cream.

She's back to being Jane on our web site. Thanks for pointing that out. And, thankfully, we had it right in the July/August issue since it is easy to correct things online, unlike in print.
