Alan Richman picks his five favorite NYC burgers for his GQ blog;  he says “New York is the best place in America to get a basic burger prepared properly.”   Doubtful.  Nonetheless, his five picks include the two Roadfood.com choices Shake Shack (“not a great burger, but a very good one”)  and Peter Luger (“there’s only one correct way to eat meat this wonderful, and that’s unadorned”).  Also making the list are Big Nick’s Burger & Pizza Joint, Blue Smoke, and the Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien Hotel.

That’s a Shake Shack cheeseburger pictured above, from Stephen Rushmore Jr.’s Roadfood.com review.  See the Roadfood.com review of Peter Luger here.

The Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien Hotel is a fantastic place. Since he appears to be going upscale with his Luger mention, I would also add Robuchon to the list.

Those little burgers at Robuchon are decked out with foie gras? How do they compare with the DB burger?

Since price seems to be no object, any list of great NYC burgers that does not include the db Burger at Daniel Boulud's db Bistro is sorely incomplete.

I don't do upscale burgers very often, so I can't compare to the db Burger. Should I?
