The Blueberry Festival is a festival within a festival, as it's one element of the Union Fair in Union, Maine. Billed as "A Real Maine Agricultural Fair," the Union Fair was first held in 1869. The Blueberry Festival part of the Union Fair was first held in 1959.
The best part of the Blueberry Festival may be The Wild Blueberry Hut, where you can get muffins, coffee cakes, pastries, and pies made with blueberries. On Friday the 22nd the Hut will bake and serve up free individual wild blueberry pies for everyone! Also on that Friday is a wild blueberry pancake breakfast.
There will be a series of blueberry baking contests, a blueberry pie eating contest for kids, and Wild Blueberry Corner, where you can learn all about wild Maine blueberries. A new Maine Wild Blueberry Queen will also be chosen.
See the Blueberry Festival website for more info, or to learn more about the Union Fair.
