Take a two-inch-thick slab of Bauder’s homemade peppermint ice cream.  Coat the bottom with a layer of Oreo cookie crumbs.  Coat the top with fudge, and another layer of cookie crumbs.  The result?  Bauder’s much-loved peppermint bars as served at the Iowa State Fair for the last nine years (Bauder’s has been at the fair since 1986).  The fair begins next week, and Joanne Boeckman of The Des Moines Register talks to some of the vendors, including Bauder’s Pharmacy, that will be offering the specialties that Iowans so look forward to.  You can read the story here.
