The Roadfood troupe assembled in the hotel lobby on Saturday morning, and Stephen Rushmore and Marc Bruno greeted everyone and handed out official Roadfood shirts. Jane & Michael Stern corralled us on the bus and we set out for Rochester, while RF power-poster ChiTownDiner passed out plastic WWbbD? bracelets (courtesy of Milwaukee RFer JRPfeff), honoring Pittsburgh correspondent and friend Buffetbuster.

RF Rochester1

Our first stop was Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in downtown Rochester, not far from Kodak’s headquarters. The staff was busy setting up a buffet for us, with pulled pork, ribs, brisket, beans, salted potatoes, and tomato/cucumber salad. For Roadfooders, there’s always a brief pause for snapshots of the vittles before digging in, and hearing the electronic snaps of fifty-plus digital-camera shutters was music to our ears! Locally brewed Saranac root beer was on tap here, and its creamy flavor wonderfully punctuated the meat (ours was lightly drizzled with Dinosaur’s Wango Tango sauce) and sides.  Nick Tahou

It was difficult to restrain ourselves from this BBQ feast when Nick Tahou Hots was our next destination. We opted to walk the six or so blocks to the restaurant, and the bus arrived there just as we crossed the final street. The renowned Garbage Plate reminded us of the plate lunches from L&L in Hawaii: macaroni salad and homefries topped with two split and grilled Texas hot wieners (the “hots” in Nick Tahou Hots), meat chili, mustard, and chopped onions. Others ordered regular hot dogs and cheeseburgers, but the big surprise came when Mr. Tahou himself told everyone that our meals were on the house! The Rochester wrap-up comes in Part 3!  (Photos courtesy of Stephen Rushmore)

The Garbage plate is delicious! I came across this at the Great New York State Fair.
